Brook Scalero confessed to torturing 14 dogs and 1 baby. Many of the dogs died. Her 23-page journal describes the thrill she got from inflicting pain on them. Her husband, Chris, helps her get animals.
Three of the dogs’ bodies were found. They had injuries consistent with Brook’s journal entries. After being arrested by Mesa police, she verbally confessed. She later recanted, stating that her journal, was simply “creative writing”.
Due to a lack of forensic evidence, she was not tried for these crimes. Even though bodies were found, law enforcement, at that time, didn’t realize they would need to collect evidence for future use.
The last page of her journal describes the torture of a 14-month-old baby.
